We're a family run farm
who've been producing turkeys
for over 50 years

Atkinson turkeys are a small family run farm located in Briercliffe, Burnley. We’re located near the Lancashire Yorkshire border.
We mainly rear traditional bronze turkeys and the classic farm white birds. But in recent years have been producing more and more small bronze turkeys.
The number of bronze turkeys we produce has increased over the years. They are becoming more popular with our customers.
How we rear our turkeys
All our birds arrive on the farm at the end of June/early July. This makes them at least 22 to 24 weeks old by early December.
At the end of June, we rear our turkey chicks under heat lamps until they are around five weeks old.
At 8 to 10 weeks old the young turkeys big enough to outside to roam around on the grass.
We rear our turkeys using traditional turkey rations. We also add a percentage of oats to the traditional ration too.
The oats are an age-old way of finishing turkeys. We find it gives our birds a lovely natural finish.
We feed all our birds a cereal-based diet which is free from drugs. We don’t add any growth promoters or antibiotics to their feed.
In early December the slaughtering process is carried out by fully licensed operatives on our farm. We don’t send our turkeys away to be slaughtered. We control the whole process.
Afterwards, all turkeys are hand finished and hung in a chilled environment for a period of 10 to 14 days. As with beef this hanging. Gives a much-improved flavour and texture to the meat.
Birds are then eviscerated again on the farm. And are ready for collection on the 23rd and 24th of December.
